The (Brief) Return of the Barefoot Runner

I haven’t been feeling anything in my calf lately and I was itching to go for another run, so I decided to risk it. But I should have listened to the little voice that said there’s a difference between running and walking and you should give it a bit longer.

I began to feel the sore spot in my right calf within a few minutes of starting, and eventually it got so bad that I knew I’d tear the muscle completely if I didn’t stop.

It was so frustrating because I was loving it. Running with bare feet through wet grass on a lovely morning is an experience that goes beyond just running! But I think I’ll be a good few weeks before I dare try again. Time to pump the bike tyres up…

Always the way. I always tell myself I’m going to be really careful then fail at the last hurdle. Hurt my back pretty badly about 6 weeks ago and have been treating it so carefully since then and building up really slowly. Almost better again this week, then I wasn’t concentrating while playing with my friend’s baby and picked him up wrong and it hurts again!

Still, at least I got to use teaching Sunday school today, during the Olympics, as an excuse to dig out all my old running medals and show off to the children!

  3. Hi
I am a barefooter with a right calf problem also. My calves were what started me barefooting in the first place. It seems like we are experiencing the same things. I have just put a post together about it with views froma few people including some advice on how to judge when it is time to run again after a calf strain. Hope it helps. Chris
