Stig of the Dump

I want to do my little bit to mark the recent passing of Clive King, author of Stig of the Dump.

It is the highly original and wonderfully written story of a boy who comes across, and establishes an unspoken rapport with, a ‘caveman’, a youth from prehistoric times. Eventually, he is mysteriously transported back to that period, where he helps Stig’s people erect a group of standing stones.

The book deservedly became a children’s classic, and the original paperback version bears the evocative pictures of Edward Ardizzone – my favourite book illustrator of all time.
