I’ve just finished reading Huckleberry Finn and I was surprised at how much I’ve enjoyed it. I read it more out of a sense of duty because I knew it was a classic and
it was the choice for a mini-book club I’ve got going with a friend. I expected it to be a pleasant read, probably over-long and dated. However it’s made me laugh out loud probably more than any book I’ve ever read.
I know there’s a lot of debate about the use of the word “nigger”, which is very liberally sprayed around in the book, but I see it as being of its time and I definitely don’t agree with the versions which have censored it out.
I now definitely plan to look up both Tom Sawyer and a Twain biography. I’ve already downloaded a free book of his life on the Mississippi to my Kindle!
