Good news!

One disappointment with my Last Duel book was that I couldn’t find pictures of the any of the people involved. It was in the earliest days of photography but I had slim hopes that someone involved might have been photographed in later life, but all searches turned up nothing. However, thanks to the very helpful John Weedy and his Illustrated London News website, I have finally got a tantalising glimpse of one of the central figures. You can see on the left of the picture Lieutenant Edward Lawes Pym in the dock at Winchester Assizes, standing trial for murder a year after the duel. He was a second to Lieutenant Hawkey, who was the actual duellist. At the end of the trial the jury found him……but no, you’ll have to read the book to find out!!!
